Tobramycin is an antibiotic that belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics and is primarily employed to treat various bacterial infections. It is effective against a range of gram-negative bacteria.
Tobramycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the bacterial ribosomes, disrupting the synthesis of proteins essential for bacterial growth and survival.
It is particularly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and others. It is less effective against Gram-positive bacteria.
