Streptomycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, disrupting the initiation complex and leading to misreading of mRNA. This interference prevents proper translation and inhibits bacterial growth.

Streptomycin is employed in microbiology for selective bacterial isolation and antibiotic sensitivity testing to assess the susceptibility of bacterial strains.
