Apramycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing the initiation complex formation and leading to misreading of the mRNA. This interference disrupts the translation process and inhibits bacterial growth.

Commonly used in microbiology to selectively isolate bacteria that are sensitive to this antibiotic. It is also used in antibiotic sensitivity testing to determine the susceptibility of bacterial strains. Its resistance genes are used as selectable markers in genetic engineering.
